Businesses Call for Federal Immigration Reform
Columbia, SC - A coalition of organizations representing a variety of industries and businesses called on Congress Monday for meaningful comprehensive immigration reform. The group outlined the devastating impact strict limits on migrant workers could have on the state’s economy, approaching billions of dollars. The coalition also called on the S.C. General Assembly to adjourn debate on the issue and to leave the matter to federal authorities to resolve.

Representatives with the hospitality, agribusiness, construction, homebuilders, and other industries told reporters the nation’s immigration system is broken, and Americans are paying the price. Coalition members voiced concerns that proposed state laws will not work because they may conflict with federal laws, causing confusion and placing unreasonable liability and financial burden on business owners.

South Carolina Chamber of Commerce Vice President for Public Policy Otis Rawl said, “Immigration is a federal issue and should be resolved by Congress. State-by-state mandates and piecemeal approaches destroy gains in the economy. Businesses should not be strapped with compliance burdens. Many small businesses already face out-of-control workers’ compensation and health care costs. Adding another state-mandated burden will only move South Carolina backward in raising per capita income.â€

I imagine this is the group that Lindsey Graham is working for. He sure isn't working for the majority.

Damn bunch of spoiled crybabies. What about the current H2A ag worker visa, which allows for UNLIMITED numbers of ag workers? What about machines the Europeans use that replace workers?

As for the other industries they just need to raise wages until Americans are attracted to these jobs. If the business owners don't like it they should move to Mexico.

A lot of business in North Carolina has moved to Mexico.
Wished they would have taken Sellout Burr (R-NC) with them.

I was being sarcastic, you cannot move the construction and hospitality business to Mexico. But the business owners that don't want to pay American wages could move there! They could buy a hut on the beach and go fishing.

Many small businesses already face out-of-control workers’ compensation and health care costs.
So it makes more since to hire illegals and get away from paying these.
Believe me I know My own family can't get a job in the construction business in Greensboro area. The owners of the construction companies came right out and said it, could only afford to pay him under the table like th eillegals. Another said if he couldn't speak spanish he couldn't use him because his workers are spanish speaking. Now what does that tell you!
And they still get social services to pay for their babies and their girlfriends or wifes get free healthcare. They go and apply in new veichles! I have seenit myself!
    Something most American's aern't awarded!
    Job's no American's want what a crock!!!

The only thing flawed is the lying businesses all over this country, they don't want to have to take responsiblity for anything they just want their cheap labor.
we should outlaw the chamber of commerence.
maybe if you kept these people in the ag fields you would not have a shortage problem, but no you let them leave and go into all other fields of employment, you are a bunch of idiots and we are on to all of you!!
