Closing arguments due Thursday in profiling case

PHOENIX (AP) - Lawyers face a Thursday deadline for handing in their last round of written closing arguments in a trial aimed at settling allegations over Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's office racially profiles Latinos in its immigration patrols.

U.S. District Judge Murray Snow has already been given the first of 2 rounds of closing arguments.

The judge didn't reveal when he would issue his ruling.

A small group of Latinos who brought the case said Arpaio's deputies pulled over some vehicles only to make immigration status checks during regular traffic patrols and the sheriff's 20 special immigration patrols.

The sheriff has repeatedly denied the allegations and says his deputies only stop people when they think a crime has been committed.
