INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels said he expects a bill targeting illegal immigration to be altered to focus more on employers and less on law enforcement.

Daniels told The Indianapolis Star on Tuesday that he thinks the bill intended to impose an Arizona-style crackdown on illegal immigration will be changed to shift its focus to employers. He said the bill's law enforcement provisions are "the ones that have bothered most people."

Daniels said provisions aimed at employers who knowingly hire people who have come to the United States illegally should remain in the bill.

Sen. Mike Delph, the Carmel Republican who authored the bill, says some law enforcement provisions will remain under proposed amendments when the bill goes before a House committee on Thursday.
