Oldest former Border Patrol agent dies at 101

TUCSON, AZ -- The U.S. Border Patrol lost its oldest living retired agent on Tuesday. Marion Russell died at the age of 101 in Tucson.

He joined the Border Patrol as a patrol inspector at Camp Chiagas, Texas at the age of 34.

Russell spent more than 30 years working in southern Arizona, before retiring in 1973.

"Our hearts are heavy with the passing of my friend, Marion," said Tucson Sector Chief Robert Gilbert. We will all miss him, but his legacy continues with the men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol. Our thoughts and prayers go to out his family and loved ones."

Russell was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Ethel.

He is survived by his son Vern and daughter Mary Alice, 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral arrangements are still pending as of Thursday.
