Challenges to a Sheriff, Both Popular and Reviled

PHOENIX — Joe Arpaio, a cherished figure in the movement against illegal immigration, is running for a fifth term as the Maricopa County sheriff. But a referendum on his contentious approach to law enforcement — and the growing challenges to it — is already under way in the public arena.
Sheriff Arpaio has raised more than $500,000, and he is mobbed by well-wishers at campaign events, at which he signs autographs and poses for photographs. A poll last month showed him with a comfortable lead over his challenger.“It’s exciting, taking on an issue that’s really worldwide,â€

Excuse me. If most of the illegals are hispanic, then it just looks like racial profiling. How can you get away from the fact that most are hispanic? You can't get away from it. If you stop a person and they happen to be hispanic and they happen to be illegal, what is the problem? They are just using this as an excuse. It makes perfect sense to me.

They are trying to say this is some kind of publicity stunt.

Would that all our sheriffs in Texas wanted that kind of publicity.

More Americans need to be supporting a Sheriff who wants to protect his community from criminal illegal aliens. Their voices need to drown out the open border, illegal alien groups.

Mr. Gordon said he acted in April after meeting privately at a church with Hispanic constituents who complained that Sheriff Arpaio, in routine patrols and crime sweeps that included the arrest of large numbers of illegal immigrants, had sown a fear of all law enforcement officials, raising concerns that crimes were going unreported.

Why was the meeting "private"? Why was it only hispanic "constituents" attended? Were the people arrested not illegal aliens? Then what's the problem? The Sheriff was obviously doing his job.

In addition, the mayor said, a Hispanic aide, who has since joined the racial profiling lawsuit, complained to him of a sheriff’s deputy singling her out to produce a Social Security card while other, non-Hispanic motorists stopped along with her for driving in a restricted area only had to show their licenses.

Now this is a publicity stunt if I ever heard one. She racially profiles "non-hispanics", how does she know what ethnicity the other drivers were? What does that have to do with showing ID? Was she in every car that was stopped and saw each ID that was presented? How does she know the other drivers were not asked for the same ID?

These losers are grasping at straws. The MAJORITY of VOTERS want Sheriff Joe to rid AZ of illegal aliens. GO JOE!
