Will Texas Revive ‘states’ rights?

Texas Governor Rick Perry made headlines last year with some offhand comments about secession. Not only were his remarks supported by a majority of Texans, but a great number of Americans from other states agreed.

Anger with the federal government’s unbridled spending and far reaching regulations from the EPA and other out of control agencies resonated deep with most Americans. The result was the overwhelming rejection of socialistic legislation and liberal maneuvering by the Obama administration which played out with the US House being restored to the control of the GOP, and the US Senate imbalance adjusted towards a more conservative makeup.

The Arizona law concerning illegal immigrants received support from a vast majority of constitutionalists, Republicans, and Tea Party adherents—and Governor Jan Brewer’s status and popularity in Arizona and throughout the country was measured at an astounding 72% approval rating while President Obama’s polls dropped faster than housing values after a mudslide. When the Justice Department filed suit, those defending Arizona’s new law raised millions in its defense.
