Five illegal immigrants, who may have crossed the border in cars on the back of an 18-wheeler, were picked up in Kerrville, but none of the agencies involved could say what happened to them.

According to Kerrville Police reports, the five men were seen climbing out of cars on a tractor-trailer parked at Wal-Mart on Saturday afternoon. Officers were called there and stopped the men as they were walking into the store.

A police spokeswoman said all five had Mexican identification cards, and they had apparently entered the United States illegally. No information about the truck or the truck driver was available.

According to Kerr County Jail records, the illegal immigrants were ages 19, 25, 29, 33 and 36. They were held in the jail over the weekend and then turned over to an “outside agency,” but jailers could not say which agency.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection office in Laredo said her office had no records for the illegal immigrants. A spokesman in Del Rio for the same agencies also said his office had no records.

Neither spokesman could say which office had jurisdiction over illegal immigrants in Kerr County.

Phone calls to the U.S. Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement were not immediately returned.
