SOUTH HUTCHINSON ISLAND — Six suspected illegal immigrants came ashore Sunday morning near Jensen Beach and were caught with two duffel bags containing about 110 pounds of marijuana, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office.

The immigrants, whose nationality has not yet been determined, were spotted by someone who called 911 around 7 a.m. from the Courtyard by Marriott hotel, 10978 South Ocean Drive, just north of the Martin County line, St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara said.

The six suspects were dripping wet and carrying the two duffel bags of marijuana, Mascara said.

They were turned over to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The boat in which they apparently arrived was recovered by the Martin County Sheriff's Office and transferred to federal authorities.
