9 Illegal Workers Arrested At OIA
Airport: Workers Were Employed Bu Subcontractors

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Federal customs and transportation security agents arrested nine contract workers at the Orlando International Airport Thursday night after discovering that they were in the U.S. illegally.

OIA spokeswoman Carolyn Fennell said the workers – who worked on a construction project on Airside 1 -- were discovered during a regulatory compliance inspection. She said the workers will be placed in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Fennel said the workers escorted to the airport by the subcontractors they worked for, who were expected to check the employee's legal status. She said the workers were security screened before entering the airport.

Fennel said the subcontractors involved were Commercial Flooring and Maverick and both are contractors for Hensel Phelps.
