Authorities in New Jersey said a Mexican teen who was believed kidnapped is safe after his father made the final payment to bring his son into the U.S.

New Brunswick police said the 15-year-old was driven away in a van Sunday because his father was $200 short. Police said the father had promised a group he would pay $2,800 to get his son to the central Jersey town.

Oldiberto Mendoza wired the rest of the cash and his son arrived in Newark on a bus Wednesday.

Authorities don't know the whereabouts of the people who helped the child across the border. The case has been turned over to the FBI and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
