Egyptian student to get trial in immigration court

TAMPA, Fla. -- An Egyptian college student acquitted of federal explosives charges will be tried again by immigration authorities who will determine whether he should be deported.

Youssef Megahed's (MEG-uh-hed) attorney, Charles Kuck, said he likely will face trial on terrorism charges in Miami sometime in August.

A Tampa jury in April found the 23-year-old Megahed not guilty of possessing explosives that could have been used to make a destructive device.

Megahed was seized and jailed by immigration authorities three days later.

Megahed's attorney argued that he didn't know anything about the low-grade explosive material in the trunk or the apparent terrorist leanings of the fellow Egyptian student who was arrested with him.
