The Bay County Sheriff’s Office visited four construction sites Tuesday where deputies asked to review employment information with construction supervisors.

One man, Ruben Ramos Lopez, 40, was arrested at the Sperry Enterprise Storage construction site on Joan Avenue, Panama City Beach, when it was discovered he had used a stolen social security number to obtain employment.

An inspection of employment information at the BCL Contractors construction site at the Bay County Courthouse revealed seven individuals with stolen social security numbers: Roberto Mendez Gonzales, 37, Ramon Mendez Gonzales, 35, Javier Mendez Gonzales, 29, Marselino Francisco, 20, David Lopez Calvo, 28, Reynaldo Lopez Calvo, 28, and Roberto Simon, 43 years old.

More than 75 employment records were checked in the Panama City area Tuesday . Other sites visited were Breakfast Point School on Beckrich Road, Panama City Beach, and McCory Construction at 16724 Front Beach Road.

All eight arrested Tuesday were charged with violations of Criminal Use of Personal Identification Information, which is stealing social security numbers

    PANAMA CITY

Seven suspected illegal immigrants were arrested Tuesday at a county work site.

Bay County sheriff’s deputies made the arrests Tuesday at the county courthouse. The men were employed by BCL Contractors to work on the new sally port project, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

Deputies said they checked the employment records of the workers and found the men had used stolen Social Security numbers. Each of the workers was charged with criminal use of personal identification information.

The arrests could be a problem for county officials.

The Bay County Commission unanimously passed a resolution in March that would allow commissioners to break contracts with companies that hired illegal workers. The resolution provided the option of banning those companies from seeking county contracts for at least a year.

County spokeswoman Valerie Lovett said Tuesday evening that the suspected illegals were working on a project overseen by CCA, the company that runs the county jail.

“At this point, we don’t have the details,â€
