FL: Illegal aliens caught working trash detail

Illegal aliens caught working trash detail along U.S. 231
    By Andy Meinen, News Herald

    March 8, 2007 - 12:11PM
Four illegal immigrants were found picking up trash along U.S. 231 near Elbel Road on Wednesday morning for a subcontractor paid by the Florida Department of Transportation.

The four men, all from Mexico, said they were employed by John M. Braxton, 3136 Aycock Road, of Cottondale, according to a Bay County Sheriff’s Office news release.

They said Braxton was a subcontractor for FDOT hired to pick up trash. An official at Immigrations and Customs Enforcement told the Sheriff’s Office that their agents were tied up and couldn’t pick up the four men Wednesday, the news release stated.

The ICE agent told the Sheriff’s Office the men, who were on four-wheelers, had to report themselves to the Wakulla County Jail because it is the closest facility that can house illegal aliens, the news release stated.

Investigators called Braxton and told him that he would receive a ticket for $500. Braxton initially refused to come to Bay County to sign a citation because he was afraid of being arrested, according to the news release.

Braxton then sent a representative to Bay County to pick up the four-wheelers, the news release said. Braxton met a deputy at the county line and signed the citation, said Ruth Sasser, spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office.

Report themselves, what in the heck is that all about? I swear things are getting stranger and stranger in this battle.
