FL: Illegal Aliens Stopped Trying To Enter Military Facility

Illegal Aliens Stopped Trying To Enter Military Facility

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A heads up security guard at the U.S. Marine facility on Blount Island prevented five Mexican nationals from entering the base illegally.

It is a military base on a port island where Homeland security is essential.

"I commend the Marine Corps today for having the 100% ID Checks in place," said Richard Quinn, Chief of Customs and Border Protection for Homeland Security in Jacksonville.

Around 7:30 Thursday morning six men in a truck tried to get past this gate. They came from a westside contractor, BGCO, to work on a military contract, but five of the six were detained.

"We don't believe there was any terrorist or criminal intent beyond being in a secure facility," said Quinn.

Customs and Border Patrol Chief Richard Quinn says the marine guards called his agency and the JSO. The men were questioned and Homeland Security determined they were illegal aliens from Mexico.

"The effort by these five to gain access to the port I think is somewhat more serious than other encounters with illegal aliens," Quinn said.

Quinn says, "After we were able to determine that in fact they were illegal aliens attempting to gain entry into a controlled facility we were able to turn those individuals over to Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents."

Those ICE agents took the five into custody.
"And they are proceeding with removal. These individuals will now go before a judge and be removed from the United States," Quinn says.

That meeting before the judge will take place in the coming weeks at Immigration Court in Orlando. After that, the five men are expected to be deported back to Mexico. The westside contractor will have a lot of questions to answer in the coming days.
