Man going to prison prior to deportation

A 29-year-old man faces six months in prison and deportation to his native Mexico following his sentencing Thursday in federal court in East St. Louis.

Jose Antonio Rangel Castillo was sentenced Thursday for passport fraud, possession of a false alien registration receipt card, and illegal entry by a removed alien. Castillo has been in custody since his arrest on March 9. He pleaded guilty to the charges on June 1, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorneys’ office.

Prosecutors claimed that Castillo had made false statements when he applied for a U.S. Passport on Nov. 7 at the Granite City Post Office. At the time, Castillo falsely identified himself as “N.C.H.,â€
