Virginia Dept of Transportation & Hiring Illegal Aliens

Congrats again about that 287g victory in Waukegan! You guys make me smile all of the time!

There was an earlier article from the July 15th Washington Post referenced at ALIPAC this past weekend, about Prince William County cracking down on illegals. Here is my letter to VDOT (Staunton District) about one of their subcontractors hiring illegals (and the illegals are making $17/hour as flagmen...incredible!)

Please join me in emailing or writing them...an earlier post was done about this, but the more we complain, the better.

You want to email: stauntoninfo@vdot.virginia.gov. You can also email the Virginia Dept of Labor at: novadir@doli.state.va.us; laborlaw@doli.state.va.us

    Here we go:

Virginia Dept of Transportation (Staunton District)
    P.O. Box 2249
    Commerce Road
    Staunton, VA 24402-2249

    Dear Sirs,

After reading the Washington Post article, "Fear Seizes Prince William Immigrants -- Legal and Not," by Nick Miroff (Sunday 7/15/07), I am disgusted that at least one of your VDOT subcontractors is hiring illegals.

According to the article, Mexican brothers Adrian & Antonio Escobar snuck across the border almost 15 years ago, and currently live in Winchester, VA (in the Staunton VDOT District). They are both employed as flagmen for a "VDOT Subcontractor," earning $17/hour. The subcontractor is not identified in the article (I guess that the reporter decided not to identify the subcontractor in order to protect the privacy of the "guilty.")

Towards the end of the article, these two illegal aliens were interviewed, scoffing at the idea that Americans would even consider doing paving in their section of Virginia, and claiming that if they were deported, they would be back in Virginia within a month.

I demand that you identify these two illegal aliens and have Immigration and Customs pick them up immediately. Why aren't you tracking the legal documents of your subcontractors? You have a responsibility to ensure that your subcontractors are only hiring legal workers. Obviously, you aren't doing your job, as two of your subcontractors are shooting off their mouths to one of the biggest papers in the nation...about their illegal status...and the fact that they don't fear deportation shows that VDOT isn't an entity that they have to worry about. Obviously, they've had you fooled for a long time. Of course, why should you care? As long as the work gets done, who cares that at least two American workers have been denied $17/hour wages (very good wages, by the way) for months or probably years.

I am looking forward to contacting the Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Transportation over this, as well as ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement.)

The days of local and state governments turning a blind eye to the employment of illegal aliens by unscrupulous subcontractors who have underbid everyone else because they use illegal labor are rapidly coming to a close. I urge you to become a part of the solution and stop hiring illegals. Americans did this work before the illegals came, and will continue to do it, if you actively try to recruit Americans. You have the power to do the right thing. Do it!

    Sincerely,

    My Name
    My Address
    My City, State, Zip

Great letter Ostrich!!! I, too, have VDOT on my list after reading that article.

Now that Waukeganhas been won, I will be typing letter to VDOT in the a.m.

It makes me so darned angry to hear illegals as they scoff and sneer about how if they weren't doing these well paying jobs Americans sure wouldn't be and nothing would get done.

    The arrogance is stupefying.
