An Olmito man is behind bars

BROWNSVILLLE, TEXAS -- An Olmito man is behind bars after he allegedly tried to smuggle $654,000 worth of cocaine and marijuana into the United States.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers said they arrested Mario Guadalupe Pecina on federal drug trafficking charges on Sunday.

The 35-year-old man allegedly drove up to the Gateway International Bridge in Brownsvillle in his Lincoln Town Car on Sunday morning.

An inspection revealed 20 pounds of cocaine and one pound of marijuana inside his dash board.

CBP officers turned the case over to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents for further investigation.
