WEST UNION – A former Agriprocessors employee has been sentenced to prison for returning to the United States.

On Thursday, Savino Ortiz-Camarillo Jr., 36, also known as Sabino Ortiz-Camarillo Jr., a citizen of Mexico was sentenced to up eight months behind bars on a count of illegal reentry following deportation.

Ortiz had previously been deported from the United States in June 2008, and January 2009. He returned to the United States and caught the attention of immigration authorities in November 2017 following a traffic arrest in Fayette County, according to prosecutors.

Court record state Ortiz, a father of three, first entered the United States before he was 19 and worked at worked at what was Agriprocessors meat packing plant in Postville. He was detained in the 2008 immigration raid and was sentenced to probation on a document charge in connection with the raid.

After he was removed from the country in January 2009, and at the time his oldest child was four or five years old, and his second child had just been born, according to defense attorney Christopher Nathan.

“In an unlawful, but understandable, decision, Mr. Ortiz-Camarillo chose to put his family obligations above the law and returned to be with his wife and two very young children,” Nathan said in a sentencing memo.

Prosecutors said Ortiz has prior convictions in Allamakee County for making a false report to police in December 2003; in Iowa County, Wisconsin, for hit and run involving injury in December 2007; and in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas of illegal entry into the United States in January 2009.

Put him in FEDERAL TENT CITY for 8 months with NO amenities and NO visitor's except via Skype!

Then deport him out of here again.

What is the legal status of his wife? Deport her and the minor children!
