MESQUITE — A traffic stop Friday resulted in the arrests of four men; two of the men fled on foot and one was found hiding in a ditch, by a Border Patrol dog.

At 9:51 a.m., Doña Ana sheriff's deputies pulled over a 1997 Crown Victoria as it turned south off Yucca Road onto N.M. 478, according to Sgt. Craig Buckingham, who said the driver was driving 50 mph in a 30 mph zone, that he failed to come to a stop and that he didn't use his turn signal.

The four men's names, ages and nationalities were expected to be released soon, but DASO said the men indicated they were Mexican.

Buckingham said the two men in the back seat were detained by the Border Patrol but the driver and passenger fled into a nearby cotton field. Officers chased down the passenger and a Border Patrol canine tracked the driver into a drainage ditch. An ambulance was called because the man reportedly said he suffered some scrapes in the pursuit. Those two men were arrested and were expected to be charged with resisting, evading and obstructing law enforcement and sent to the Doña Ana County Detention Center, Buckingham said.
