Fortenberry Addresses Immigration In SSC

Nebraska Congressman Jeff Fortenberry says illegal immigration is now probably the issue that accounts for most of the questions he gets from people in the state's first congressional district.

Today, the republican talked about that when he met with high school students and other citizens at city hall in South Sioux City.

The people who took part included Dakota County's chief prosecuting attorney. He wants to know the status of bills in congress that call for changes in national policy on illegal immigration. "Given the House's pro-active behavior on this issue, and the Senate's unwillingness to do much of anything, how do you see that shaping up," asked Ed Matney, Dakota County Attorney.

"Our leadership is suggesting that maybe before the end of the year, there might be some movement in agreement between the two bodies," said Rep. Jeff Fortenberry, (R) Nebraska. "Prior to November, it looks very doubtful."
