    T. Tancredo said Nafta is a treaty.

I head Tom Tancredo last night on Lou Dobbs.
He mentioned something that I had not heard before and had no knowledge of. Do any of you know anything about this?

Tancredo said that Anytime our country signs an agreement with any other country, that is a treaty. So Nafta, Cafta, FTAA are all treaties but that by calling them agreements and not naming them as treaties, bush can skirt around the fact that a treaty must be approved by 2/3rds of senate. So, it is an end run around the Senate. He said that Bush is abusing his power.

This reminds me of all the "actions" we have had since Vietnam where we did not declare war. A declared war is much more involved especially as far as benefits go for the troops, so calling it an "action" is a downgrade.

Is this administration good at slight of hand or what?!

Sorry, I put this in the wrong section. It should have gone in the General discussion. Move it at will.

Yep it is but more importantly I believe it is coming up for renewal in June of this year. Perhaps this is a mission of its own to get those (not nice word) jerks in Washington to figure out which side of the fence they want to find themselves on.

IF they renew it we are all toast. IF they refuse to renew it then well I am sure the powers that (currently) be have a plan for that too but it does buy time and definately draws a line in the sand.

This is what I know about NAFTA. It was an immigration bill as well. Canadians who were educated were leaving Canada for the United States. These were doctors, professors, researchers, lawyers, etc. Canada wanted to ensure they would not loose at their brightest got together with the Americans and created NAFTA. That way Canaadians could only get visas to work in the United States that had to be renewed. Once they retired they had to go back to Canada as they are not entitled to social security even though they paid into it. It is very difficult for a Canadian to actually get a greencard since NAFTA. Mexico is under the same NAFTA policy as Canada. Now the government wants to break the law for the Mexicans but not allow the Canadians with visas a chance towards citizenship. It makes me sick!

You guys just reminded me of the rest of what Tancredo said.
He said that another reason that Bush had abused his power was because he was mixing in other issues with trade IE immigration and that he is not supposed to do that. That would be part of the treaty issue that is supposed to be 2/3 of senate. Trancredo said there is no way Bush will get a vote from him on fast track authority.

That is sickening and could even, under the current "rules" set down by illegals, be considered racism, couldn't it? Too bad a few Canadians don't get together and sue the US government for racism!

Personally, I think Canadians would blend in much better. Most of us speak the same language, live in basically the same cultures...you know, no sex with animals or small children is acceptable-that kind of thing...we're on a more level playing field.

I have contemplated suing the government myself if the illegals get any type of amnesty. As I have mentioned before my husband was an American resident/Canadian citizen and we were married in Canada. When my daughter and I came down to join him once he returned, we were told by the immigration lawyer that the best thing for me to do was to go to school while waiting for him to get his citizenship. It would take less time for him to get citizenship and then get us our residency. I sold a condo to prove I had enough money to go to school and paid international student fees. Before I went to school I was offered a postion working as a healthcare supervisor as I was once a nurse. These people knew I would be working illegally. I chose the legal route. I sold the condo, paid a total of approximately $47,000 for my degree that included tuition and books. If I took the illegal route I would have made over $95,000 cash, kept the condo which I could have rented and made money from as well. If illegals get any amnesty I will sue for the money I lost by playing by the rules not too mention the extra stress I in making ends meet. By the way no media would even report on my experience they would rather write about the illegals.

It is great to post it here but I got a lucky break today as well. I was on the Joyce Kaufman radio show. She is very much against illeglas and her show was about that today.
