France: Bus Driver Stabbed by African Illegal ‘Known to Police’

An illegal migrant from Africa who was ‘already known to police’ and under deportation orders was arrested for stabbing a bus driver in France this week, according to reports.

The disturbing incident unfolded at around 7 p.m. on Monday evening in Athis-Mons, a commune in the Paris suburbs.

A bus driver was forced to swerve around a man who had fallen off his scooter while riding it the wrong way in the vehicle’s path.

An argument ensued between the driver and rider, who was heavily intoxicated, authorities say.

The suspect then punched the driver and stabbed him in the shoulder.

“A 27-year-old Libyan was arrested and taken into custody,” Le Figaro reports.

“Already known to the police, this individual is in an irregular situation and, moreover, subject to an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF), according to our information.”

The driver was taken to hospital and treated for a stab wound and rib fractures.

“My thoughts are with the driver and his family, to whom I wish a speedy recovery. The State must (finally) be intransigent on OQTF,” said François Durovray, president of the departmental council of Essonne.

An investigation and legal proceedings are ongoing.
