Fresno police continue gang crackdown (614 arrested)

    Fresno police continue gang crackdown

By Paula Lloyd / The Fresno Bee

Fresno police made 19 felony arrests Friday night as part of a southwest Fresno gang violence crackdown triggered by a double homicide on April 25.

Two of the arrestees were Bulldog gang members. Officers also seized a firearm and 5.3 grams of narcotics. Five of Friday's arrests were for narcotics counts.

Over the past six days, officers have arrested 296 people, including 107 on felony counts and 188 on misdemeanor counts. Officers have served 13 search warrants and conducted 140 parole or probation searches. Four firearms have been seized.

After three people died of gunshot wounds in two incidents on April 24 and April 25, Chief Jerry Dyer announced that more than 55 officers will saturate southwest Fresno's gang-infested neighborhoods looking for guns, drugs and leads to the homicides.

Police said on Thursday the crackdown will continue "into the foreseeable future."

It is unclear how many of those arrested are still in custody. The Sheriff's Office says it does not track which of the people arrested in the gang sweeps have been released from jail because of overcrowding.

Over the past six days, officers have arrested 296 people, including 107 on felony counts and 188 on misdemeanor counts. Officers have served 13 search warrants and conducted 140 parole or probation searches. Four firearms have been seized.

A multi-agency sweep of the Selma Bulldog gang this morning resulted in the arrest of 46 people and seizure of drugs and weapons, officials said.

More than one pound of crystal methamphetamine, 20 handguns and rifles, one improvised explosive device, two truckloads of stolen property, more than 200,000 counterfeit compact discs and nearly $41,000 were seized.

Five children at homes where the warrants were served were placed with Fresno County Child Protective Services.

About 150 members of the Fresno County MAGEC team and officials from local, state and federal agencies served 16 search warrants, most in Selma, but also in Kingsburg and the Fresno area.

The sweep concluded a four-month investigation into gang and narcotics crimes in the Selma area.

YEE HAW!!!! GOOOOO FRESNOOOO!!! HEAD EM UP AND MOVE EM OUT!!! ALL THE WAY OUT.

I love to see this. Fresno use to be a quiet little town where lower income people could go and buy a small little house and have a nice quiet life. My grandfather lived in Fresno decades ago. It was quiet and safe. We kids use to go there during the summer. It has always made me sad to hear what has happened to Fresno over the years.

Why not? Oh, wouldn't want record of how our dysfunctional state legislature has helped create this early release program due to our financial state crisis would they?
