County tallies cost of illegals

SANTA CLARITA, CA-

New statistics from the Department of Public Social Services reveal that undocumented immigrants and their families in Los Angeles County collected more than $36 million in welfare and food stamp allocations in January 2008, according to Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.

Approximately 25 percent of the all welfare and food stamps benefits were spent directly on children of undocumented immigrants. The county spent more than $19 million in welfare assistance to the immigrants in January, while more than $16 million was spent in monthly food stamp allocations.

Based upon the released figures, the projected annual cost for welfare assistance and food stamp assistance in 2008 is $420 million.

"Illegal immigration continues to have a devastating impact Los Angeles County taxpayers," Antonovich said. "With $220 million for public safety, $400 million for healthcare, and $420 million in welfare allocations, the total cost for illegal immigrants to county taxpayers far exceeds $1 billion a year - not including the millions of dollars for education."

Don't let the SLPC read this, they'll call the newspaper racists for dare reporting such figures. $36 MILLION in one month for illegals?? But we always hear how illegals are not allowed to get welfare and they would never accept it anyway, as they only contribute to local communities and never take anything in return.
