Ft. Bliss: Illegal immigrants found working on post

Sep 14, 2007 07:11 PM

FORT BLISS, TX. - An investigation is underway to find out how nine undocumented immigrants managed to get jobs at Fort Bliss.

A post spokeswoman says the illegal immigrants were hired by two different subcontractors do landscape work around new homes at the post and at Biggs Field. Jean Offutt tells ABC-7 the nine people were found by military police Friday morning and have been turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

Offutt said all employers have to follow federal guidelines and check documentation to ensure workers have the proper documentation, but that doesn't mean the documents they show are legitimate.

ABC-7 continues to gather more details on this late-breaking story.
