Two undocumented immigrants on the last part of their trip were hit by a train Sunday morning.
One of the men, who lost a foot, was found screaming for help at about 9:30 a.m. at the railroad tracks near South Presa Street and Vitra Place on the city's South Side.
Police say his right foot was severed when he tried to jump off the train.
"The first gentleman who had a severed ankle said, 'Have you checked on my friend yet?' And a couple hours later, we found this gentleman," said Sgt. Hector Lopez, with the San Antonio Police Department.
At about noon, the man's friend was found about five miles away, near Ceralvo and Driftwood streets. The other man, who also suffered severed limbs from trying to jump off the train, died.

"After the unsuccessful jump, the train sucked him in, and consequently ran him over," Lopez said.
Residents who live near the tracks were shocked to see such a grim death so close to their homes.
Police say they will contact the victim's family, as well as Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The survivor is getting medical attention at Brooke Army Medical Center.
