ATLANTA - The Mexican-American coalition met today in Atlanta to discuss immigration reform.

Its members say they are trying to prevent immigration laws from separating families.

The meeting comes months after Arizona passed a controversial new state law that would require that police officers check immigration status if they suspect someone is in the country illegally.

However, just a few weeks ago, a federal judge ruled part of that law can not stand - at least for now.

The Mexican-American coalition says it has written to President Obama asking him to go through with his campaign promise to pass comprehensive immigration reform.
