Immigration Bill Could Have Negative Impact

House Bill 87 is being referred to as a copycat version of Arizona’s strict new immigration law, Senate Bill 1070. The Georgia House of Representatives passed the bill with a large party-line vote. However this action was not met without controversy.

We would love to see an impact on Georgia by this law.
Unfortunately, it is not strict enough - fines and jail should be the rule for employers who hire them.
There are H2A visas for agriculture - we have almost 500,000 illegals here and they could pick the entire Vidalia onion crop clean in an afternoon. The fact is they are not on the farms - they are getting paid under the table by subcontractors while their families are collecting benefits.
If our governor does not sign it then he can expect a very short career. He introduced a bill to deny citizenship to anchor babies when he was in the legislature and campaigned on a tough stance against illegal immigration. However, he was also named one of the most corrupt lawmakers in Congress and that is very worrisome.
