Anti-Defamation League questions Sheriff Joe’s sweeps

PHOENIX — The heat is once again on Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, whose illegal immigration crackdowns have earned him another critic.

Arpaio: I’m not going to stop

The Anti-Defamation League is not calling on Washington, D.C., to intervene, asking the Department of Justice to investigate the self-proclaimed “America’s Toughest Sheriff.â€

Sheriff Joe is exercising his authority based upon his training and coordination with ICE under 287(g), etc. So long as he is consistent with maintaining the requirements imposed by that MOA/MOU (Memo of Agreement /Understanding) then he has acted in a sanctioned manner and has not broken any laws or abridged civil rights.

I suspect, however, that the ADL (and ACLU, and SPLC, and MALDEF, etc...) really are upset about is that Sheriff Joe is doing ENFORCEMENT and they happen not to agree with ENFORCEMENT. Throwing out accusations of official misconduct is a convenient excuse to try to stop his concerted efforts at enforcing EXISTING laws on the subject.

I find this statement coming from the ADL as highly hypocritical! They have NO problem with Israelis profiling Arabs, but have a problem with us deporting illegal aliens?

I guess the ADL is demanding that the state of Israel stop the racial profiling of Arabs and open their borders?

For a long time the ADL has had certain presumptions about both themselves and others and those were used for expectations of Blacks. It could be voiced like this.

"We Jews have intelligence and opinions the Blacks have numbers. If we speak for the Blacks they will accept our opinions based on our superior intelligence and so pass laws which protect our own group interests". The Blacks are now clearly feeling that they can be independent and have their own intelligence and opinions and their interests overlap but sometimes conflict.


The ADL now has a new group which they are treating the same way they have traditionally been treating Blacks this is Latino Americans. The Latinos are now easier to feel comfortable to patronize.

I suspect you're right Richard. The ADL might want to check into how well Jews are treated in Latin American countries. Just because a latino leaves his own country, does not mean he leaves the idealogy behind.
