Police: Girl stabbed while exiting bus

MARIETTA - Cobb Police say a man stabbed a 13-year-old girl on Monday in the parking lot of Lincoln Hills Apartment Homes off Windcliff Drive.


Officer Joe Hernandez said Marietta resident Gedioney Ferreira, 23, allegedly attacked and stabbed the girl multiple times when she was getting off the school bus around 2 p.m.

Lincoln Hills Apartment Homes is located near Interstate 75 between Delk and Terrell Mill roads.

The girl was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Hernandez said.

Ferreira is charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault and cruelty to children in the first degree. He is being held in the Cobb County Jail on $100,000 bond, said Nancy Bodiford of the Cobb Sheriff's Office.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency has also placed a hold on Ferreira to determine his immigration status, Bodiford said.

On his book-in sheet, Ferreira listed his employer as Wheeler High School. However, Cobb Schools spokesman Doug Goodwin said Ferreira is not a current or past employee of the school district according to human resources records.

The alleged stabbing is considered an isolated incident. Police said the girl, whose name is not being released because she is a juvenile, was specifically targeted. Authorities could not comment further in regards to possible motive.
