17 Aliens Intercepted by Border Interagency Group
(Friday, May 13, 2011)
Aguadilla, Puerto Rico – Law enforcement entities of the Caribbean Border Interagency Group intercepted 17 undocumented alien citizens of the Dominican Republic yesterday.
During early Thursday morning hours a U.S. Customs and Border Protection aircraft detected a vessel traveling eastward without its required navigational lights. CBP air interdiction agents followed the vessel and coordinated an interdiction with U.S. Coast Guard cutter Cushing, 18 nautical miles northwest of the coast of Aguadilla, PR.
Coast Guard personnel documented the incursion via records checks and biometrics, and CBP Border Patrol agents interviewed the aliens.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement will present the case for prosecution.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
