Getting a Grip on Graffiti
Lisa Boschert

A number of businesses, homes and garages in east Topeka are repeatedly being spray painted with graffiti.

Mayor Bill Bunten says two rival gangs are having a turf war and they're using the sides of buildings to mark their territory.

He says he has had many discussions with police Chief Harsha on the vandalism in east Topeka and the police department is going to crack down on anyone putting graffiti on buildings.

Bunten also said officers will be checking to see if any of the gang members are illegal immigrants, "This is just a few hoodlums who don't know right from wrong and we're going to find out who they are and we're going to prosecute them."

Many of the business owners repeatedly repaint their buildings but many say it's happening too often to keep fixing it.
