STATEMENT BY CONGRESSMAN BILBRAY
August 3, 2007

washington d.c. — Congressman Brian Bilbray (R-CA), Chairman of the Immigration Reform Caucus, released the following statement this morning in response to last night’s vote on a measure that would have added language to the FY 2008 Agriculture spending bill to prohibit illegal immigrants from receiving taxpayer-funded Federal benefits:

“I think last night sent a clear message to the American people that there are people in this town who are willing to break rules and utilize extraordinary maneuvers just so that illegal immigrants can receive taxpayer-funded benefits. This incident just underscores the reasons why the American people have no faith in Washington to do the right thing when it comes to addressing illegal immigration. Anyone who thought they could go home and not hear from their constituents about the illegal immigration issue will have a long, hot, August recess.â€
