    Good news from our favorite Federal Judge - 70 month prison

    PHOENIX (LAWFUEL) – Victor Manuel Perez-Monroy, 51, of Mexico, was sentenced here on August 5, 2008 by U.S. District Judge Neil V. Wake to 70 months in prison. Perez-Monroy pleaded guilty on August 4, 2008, to a charge of Illegal Re-Entry After Prior Deportation.

    Perez-Monroy had been deported from the United States to Mexico through Nogales, Ariz., on December 10, 2002 and was caught in the U.S. again on October 15, 2007. He has a significant prior criminal history including a 1998 Maricopa County, Ariz., conviction for Burglary in the Third Degree for which he received a 5-year sentence. Other criminal history in Arizona includes a 1993 conviction for Burglary, Third Degree - 2.5 year sentence, a 1992 conviction for Shoplifting - 1.5 year sentence, a 1989 conviction for Endangerment - 1.9 year sentence and a 1983 conviction for Attempted Burglary, Second Degree - 4 year sentence. His criminal history was a factor in the sentence imposed by the federal judge.

    The investigation in this case was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The prosecution was handled by Josh Patrick Parecki and Raymond Woo, Assistant U.S. Attorneys, District of Arizona, Phoenix.

    What do you suppose this 70 month incarceration and conviction will cost taxpayers? I figure $200--250 thousand.
