WASHINGTON, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- U.S. House Republicans have introduced a bill they say would speed up the deportation of illegal immigrants.

Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., who co-sponsored the measure along with 20 other GOP House members Thursday, said his bill would require immigration officers to immediately deport illegal immigrants who have not been in the country continuously for four years, or when they have committed a crime or pose a threat to national security, The Hill reported. It would also limit exceptions.

The bill would go farther than the Obama administration does in its new policy, which focuses on immigrants who are a national security threat or engage in criminal activity.

"Laws are meant to be followed, and not ignored for convenience or political advantage," Hunter said last month when discussing his pending legislation.

"If someone is in the U.S. illegally, then that person is subject to deportation under the law, plain and simple. What the administration is doing is sending a loud message across our borders that we are not serious about enforcing our nation's immigration laws while backdoor channels remain wide open to millions of others."

So what does this bill do with those who have been in this country for over four years? Do they get some sort of exemption to stay and fight their deportation? Most of them do anyway, but I’m curious as to why this less than four year provision was included.

That jumped out to me too! I don't care if they have been here 4 years... that's 3 years and 364 days too many. Illegal is still illegal no matter how long it's been going on.

House Republicans introduce bill to speed up illegal-immigrant deportations

Rep. Duncan Hunter says bill is partly a response to an administration policy that focuses on deporting immigrants who are a threat.

Twenty-one House Republicans on Thursday introduced legislation that would require immigration officials to deport illegal immigrants on an expedited basis.

The bill, H.R. 2952, was planned before the Obama administration announced a new policy that focuses on deporting immigrants who pose more of a threat to the U.S., such as those who have committed crimes. But the bill's chief sponsor, Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.), said it is partly a response to that policy decision, which he called a "blatant disregard for the law" because it would selectively enforce U.S. immigration laws.

"Laws are meant to be followed, and not ignored for convenience or political advantage," Hunter said in late August when he said his bill was pending.

"If someone is in the U.S. illegally, then that person is subject to deportation under the law, plain and simple," he added. "What the administration is doing is sending a loud message across our borders that we are not serious about enforcing our nation's immigration laws while backdoor channels remain wide open to millions of others."

Hunter's bill would require immigration officers to immediately remove immigrants who have not been continuously present in the U.S. for four years, except in some circumstances, such as when the immigrant has committed a crime or poses a threat to U.S. national security.

It would clarify the authority of officials to order the expeditious removal of criminal immigrants, and limit the ability to grant stays of removal to immigrants who have been ordered to be removed.

    Just wildly guessing--

but, as we all know, most politicians run and hide when the issue of illegal immigration and deportation are raised. I think, there are many Americans who are split on removing people who have been here for a long time. I, for one am not--I say , adios and good luck. But, I am not an elected official trying to appear to be as humane as possible while getting a larger group to support the rule of law.

I am not a psychologist, but I am sure that many Americans who have lived next to quiet employed families who have children who play with their children are loath to have them removed. I have friends in upstate NY who have family members who have married Hispanics and do not WANT to know if they are legally here or not.

I also have friends and family who cannot find work while many (estimate over 7 million jobs) are taken by illegal aliens, who surprisingly defend them and say "Oh they are only here to feed their families.

God help us when the victims of the invasion defend the invaders.

From what I can see if the illegal is in the country for more than 4 years then he or she is not automatically deported and their case is put into the courts for review. The bill is a good first step in the right direction and I am sure that LaRaza will get their collective panties in a bunch over it.

I guess at this stage of the game, it's asking too much to pass a bill that requires immigration law simply be enforced in this country, meaning anyone determined to be here illegally will be deported sooner rather than later.

But this is what the hordes of hispanic activist groups (La Raza for one) do best. Drive wedges and spew propaganda in order to distort the meaning of illegal, so when immigration law is simply enforced, it’s viewed as “inhumane and racistâ€
