Rumor watch: GOP mudslinging in the works?
    By Michelle Malkin • January 3, 2008 12:50 PM

For the most part, the GOP presidential candidates have waged clean, substantive campaigns. With a few notable exceptions, the office-seekers have attacked each other’s records and eschewed ad hominems. But word has been spreading on the right side of the blogosphere that some new mudslinging may be in the works. I also received one of the e-mails hyping a press conference set for Monday at the National Press Club. Former Huckabee staffer Joe Carter tells PoliGazette there are two attacks ahead. Michael van der Galien writes: “Seemingly the scandal promises to be big. Very big. If Carter believes that it’ll force Romney to withdraw from the race before South Carolina and perhaps even after winning in Iowa today, it has to be one of the biggest scandals imaginable. Although I didn’t want to write about it at first, I have to admit that curiosity is now taking over.â€
