What tradition? There is no tradition of immigration! Americans have always controlled and restricted immigration. Furthermore, Americans always assumed that government was controlling and restricting immigration. The reason there is so much friction now is because a few years ago some of US discovered that government was NOT controlling and restricting immigration. Not only was it not controlling and restricting immigration, it was openly ignoring our laws and opening the borders and ports to anyone and signing free trade treason agreements that by treaty open the doors and borders and jobs and money up to anyone who wants to come here from the country with whom we signed these treasonous free trade agreements.
