Deport all illegals? Not in 100 years

Deport all illegals? Not in 100 years

    http://www.floridatoday.com

You've probably grasped that the only correct answer to any immigration question during this presidential campaign is, "First, secure the border." Even Democrats say that now.

But that begs the question: Then what? If you think the only answer is to find and deport all the illegal workers and their families, you're in for a very long wait.

    Consider the numbers in Florida.

On Tuesday, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (an investigative arm of Homeland Security)announced a 77 percent increase this year in arrests of "fugitive" illegal aliens -- those who have been convicted of crimes or have refused orders to leave the U.S. This year's crackdown netted 2,579 arrests in Florida in the 2007 fiscal year.

But that's only part of the picture from this year's federal efforts.

The U.S. Border Patrol, meanwhile, also stepped-up efforts and apprehended 6,193 illegal aliens in Florida during the same fiscal year, the agency told Brevard Watchlist Wednesday. It's unclear how many of those immigrants later became the fugitives busted by ICE. But let's be optimistic and assume (because it makes the math easier) that the two agencies snared a combined 8,772 illegal aliens.

That amounts to .86 percent of the 1.01 million illegal immigrants working and living in Florida, according to fresh estimates by the nonpartisan Center for Immigration Studies. Assuming no further illegal immigration, it would take more than a century to catch and expel that many people at that rate.

Actually, the job would take much more than a century, when you look deeper.

Consider that nearly two-thirds of the people apprehended in Florida by the Border Patrol -- 3,914 of them -- were Cubans, almost all of whom wanted to be caught after washing ashore. Among the first things undocumented Cubans do when they land is alert law enforcement so they can call for political asylum.

Subtract the Cubans, and U.S. immigration authorities (working harder and smarter, with that whole, distracting Department of Homeland Security reorganization behind them) nabbed fewer than .48 percent of the illegal immigrants among us here in Florida.

At that rate, it would take more than 200 years to nab 1.01 million illegal immigrants.

If we stop giving free social services, benefits, and strongly enforce the workplace laws against hiring illegals, we wouldn't have to deport them all. Take away the crumbs, no more mouse.

I'm so sick of people saying, "We can't deport them all!" Well if everything like benefits and jobs are taken away, it's already proven they will self deport..... The criminal illegals will be causght eventually.

I don't know about that. Sure, many of the mice will return home for their crumbs, however, some rats aren't motivated by food crumbs - they're looking for the whole enchilada. Those are the one that you must catch in a trap and relocate (deport).

While many illegal immigrants are here for jobs, there are also many that consider Americans prey and are here to live off the host in ways that do not include physical labor (stealing and selling drugs comes to mind). Those folks will have to be caught and deported because they won't leave otherwise. IMO, it is very conceivable that there are more of this type than most folks believe.

    Excellent MW!

I support serious and not mere 'token' deportation and self-deportation will follow. I believe we need to give them a nudge and show them we mean business with deportation and laws prohibiting hiring illegals, no welfare, no driver's licenses, etc.

In a LA VOZ DE AZTLAN EDITORIAL, they themselves claim over half a million were deported in the 1930's (using 1000 Border Agents) and about 1.5 million in 1954. It's now 2007 and we have greater technology and transportation means. Half a million is the 1930's is equivalant to 10 million today. The government needs to get out the 1930's and 1954 'How-To Deport Instruction Manuals'.

Those 'undocumented' are actually 'highly documented' with fraudulent documents our government readily accepts.

    Yes, enforce our laws.

Cut off the jobs, cut off the freebies, impound the vehicles and tell them to go home.

They need to be given a time certain to get their affairs in order, after than when caught they will be charged as criminals for the frauds they have perpetrated on the American people, for the monies they ahve stolen from the American people. The money is payable immediately or seize any property and put them on a bus.

If they are going to sue - let them sue from Mexico.

The American people can make a lot of this happen - we just haven't gotten together yet.

ONLY IF YOU ARE AN INCOMPETENT NINCOMPOOP!

ENFORCE THE LAW. CARD THEM CONTINUOUSLY. CHECK ALL DOCUMENTS. STOP GIVING AWAY BENEFITS. DON'T EMPLOY THEM.

EVENTUALLY- THEY WILL GO HOME OR SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Our government's representatives are the biggest bunch of "Can't never did anythingers," I've ever witnessed in my life. And they get paid for doing absolutely nothing but make a bigger mess of a condition they created in the first place, and put US in debt past our ears.

WHEN, WE THE PEOPLE, get the Invaders heading out of our country, we need to make sure the "Supporters" of these Invaders are sent packing as well !

I wonder how many phone calls and e-mails it took to turn the head of that NY Governor in just how many days ? I wonder if just 1/2 of the 80% of Americans that wanted our country restored to it's original condition called or wrote their representatives and the Big Brown House now, how quickly WE could get them moving then ?

To A Better Day America !
