Gov. Brewer says Facebook censored her

PHOENIX, AZ (KOLD) - Gov. Jan Brewer claims that Facebook "censored" a post about deporting illegal immigrants from her page.

"After I posted the following statement and photo yesterday, Facebook censored the post and removed it because the photo apparently violated their Facebook Community Standards," she said on Facebook.

She added that the original post received over 10,000 likes and comments.

The post that was allegedly removed criticized President Obama's administration on its new policy of not deporting illegal immigrants who don't have criminal backgrounds.

She called the move a "backdoor amnesty plan."

Accompanying the opinion was an image of her face over "Rosey the Riveter" -- a WWII-era icon that embodied the government's "We Can Do It" message.

Facebook's policy is to not elaborate on why posts are removed.

Here's a look at the what Brewer had to say on the Department of Homeland Security's new policy of not deporting immigrants who don't have a criminal record:
The Obama administration cannot get its amnesty schemes through Congress, so now it has resorted to implementing its plans via executive fiat. There's simply no other description for today's announcement that the federal government will not pursue the deportation of individuals who are in the country illegally but meet certain criteria.

This plan amounts to backdoor amnesty for hundreds of thousands – if not millions – of illegal aliens. Especially disturbing is that it comes in the wake of the Obama administration sanctioning the sale of weapons to Mexican drug cartels – even as border states such as Arizona come under threat from those same illicit organizations.

With this announcement, the President is encouraging more illegal immigration at the exact moment we need federal focus on border security. Just last month in speaking to the National Council of La Raza, President Obama rejected the idea of bypassing Congress and imposing immigration reform. He said, "Now, I know some people want me to bypass Congress and change the laws on my own.

And believe me, right now dealing with Congress, the idea of doing things on my own is very tempting … But that's not how our system works. That's not how our democracy functions.

That's not how our Constitution is written." President Obama got it right last month and got it really wrong today. Over the next 15 months, I'm certain we'll hear a lot of talk from the Obama administration about its concern for border security.

Those of us who truly care about the rule of law will remember the President's actions of today. We need to remind President Obama that we elected a president that serves beneath the law and did not anoint a king that is above the law.

    Republic Reporter:
    Governors Office

Gov. Jan Brewer ran afoul of Facebook's standards Thursday when she posted an item criticizing President Barack Obama's newly released policy of limiting the number of illegal immigrants it deports.

In her Facebook post, Brewer called the move a "backdoor amnesty plan that violates American standards of following the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution."

But ironically, it was not Brewer's words that were censored.

Rather, it was an accompanying illustration, depicting the governor as "Rosie the Riveter" - an iconic image from the 1940s that became synonymous with American women who worked in factories during World War II.

Brewer told The Republic Friday that she has no idea why Facebook pulled the rendering - which she has previously used on her page.

"I just got this automatic e-mail from them at 5:12 a.m.," Brewer said, adding that she had been "feeling quite proud about the post, because it had generated so much interest."

The post had more than 10,000 likes before it was taken down early Friday morning.

Late Friday, Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes sent a one-line statement to The Republic, saying that "the post was removed in error. We apologize for the inconvenience."

Brewer has since reposted the item and the accompanying image, and it currently has 13,500 likes.

Facebook did not give a specific reason for removing the post in the e-mail she received, according to Brewer, who read the social networking site's message to The Republic.

That message simply noted that Facebook strives to create a "safe, secure and trusted environment" for all individuals.

The governor declined to speculate on whether someone with an opposing political view complained to Facebook, or whether there was confusion about the illustration's copyright. The Brewer/Rosie image was created by an artist in Iowa who signed the copyright release over to the governor.

"The photo has been on there a million times," she said. "I really don't have a clue. I was just shocked. I am one of their bigger accounts, and I didn't put anything up there, nor would I ever, that would violate the standards."

According to published media reports, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin had a similar problem with her Facebook page last year, when she posted a note expressing opposition to a New York mosque.

Brewer currently has more than 465,000 "likes" on Facebook, making her one of the most followed active politicians on the social networking site. Her numbers, however, are eclipsed by the president, who has more than 22 million followers on Facebook.

Who really owns Facebook? Sometimes posts are flagged by staff or reported as violating terms of service. I think many deletions are probably done by bots and not humans. Just like on YouTube. If enough people flag a video, it gets taken down.

I no longer use facebook. I am fully convinced they are monitored by the government. People avoid all social networking. Facebook is just stirring it up.

Facebook Apologizes for Deleting Arizona Governor's Post
    Published August 20, 2011
    | FoxNews.com

Facebook issued an apology Saturday for deleting a post by Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer that criticized President Obama over his administration's new policy on prioritizing deportations of illegal immigrants.

Brewer's picture and a statement that accompanied it were removed Friday from Facebook, apparently because they "violated Facebook community standards."

"The post was removed in error," Andrew Noyes, Manager of Public Policy Communications at Facebook said in a statement. "We apologize for any inconvenience."

Before the photo's removal from the popular social networking site, it had garnered over 10,000 "likes" and comments, Brewer said in a follow-up post that included a reprint of Thursday's original deleted post.
Brewer, one of the president's toughest critics on border policy, said the administration's recent move to launch a case-by-case review of illegal immigrants slated for deportation amounts to an immigration overhaul "via executive fiat."

"This plan amounts to backdoor amnesty for hundreds of thousands -- if not millions -- of illegal aliens," the Republican governor said in a written statement. "We need to remind President Obama that we elected a president that serves beneath the law and did not anoint a king that is above the law."

According to Facebook policy, moderators remove posts when they fall under the categories of threat, bullying and harassment, hate speech, graphic violence, sex and nudity, theft, vandalism or fraud, identity and privacy, intellectual property, phishing and spam

Mark Zuckerberg is an Obama donor and FB buddy. They have held townhall meetings together. Really, what did we expect from the Obama machine.
