DENVER -- Gov. John Hickenlooper said he wants to find out if a program gathering fingerprints from prisoners to determine their immigration status is working.

Hickenlooper has said he wants to make sure that there is no racial profiling and that the program is being implemented properly.

The Secure Communities program has been operating in three Colorado counties since early this year. Former Gov. Bill Ritter ordered it implemented in all 64 counties.

The Denver Post reported that through March, two-thirds of the 21 people detained and deported after being identified through Secure Communities were not in the category of the most serious criminals. Six had no criminal records.
