Fitton: Can't 'clean house' till Holder's gone

A public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption believes Congress should pressure Attorney General Eric Holder to resign for how he has handled the controversial "Operation Fast and Furious" firearm program.

According to Fox News, House Judiciary Committee chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) has sent a letter to President Barack Obama requesting that he instruct the Department of Justice to appoint a special counsel to determine whether the attorney general lied during his testimony about the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) program that put guns in the hands of Mexican drug cartel members, some of which have been linked to murders. (See earlier story)

While Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton supports the call for a special counsel, he believes nothing effective will happen until Holder steps aside.

"The idea that they're going to let an outsider come in and clean house, that ain't gonna happen," he contends. "And to me, the only resolution is to make it impossible for Eric Holder to continue to serve. Until we have a new attorney general, we're going to be in a crisis in terms of Justice Department credibility."

He believes the "Fast and Furious" situation could cause major political problems for the Obama Justice Department.

"It was a scandal that resulted in people being murdered, and we still don't have full accountability from our government for what happened there," Fitton notes. "The accountability not only needs to go into the Justice Department, but it needs to go into the White House as well. This is about ideology leading to the worst sort of decision-making that led to people being killed."

He suggests this is just about as major a scandal that could happen in Washington, DC.

The only way to remove that Chicago corrupt machine is to remove Obama in 2012
You cannot dedicate yourself to America unless you become in every
respect and with every purpose of your will thoroughly Americans. You
cannot become thoroughly Americans if you think of yourselves in groups. President Woodrow Wilson
