Governor orders N.Y. State Troopers to Long Island to take on MS-13

April 27, 2017

Over two-dozen New York State Troopers are being deployed to Long Island to take on the infamous MS-13 syndicate, an order issued by Governor Cuomo in the never-ending war on gang violence in the Empire State.

“We will do everything we need to do to eliminate this criminal organization,” Cuomo told reporters during a press conference in Brentwood, noting that a special task unit is being set up for anti-gang operations, including an aviation unit.

The governor said twenty-five troopers are on their way to work with local and federal law enforcement in Suffolk County. He also urged the immigrant community to cooperate with police, stressing that illegal immigration law enforcement is not part of the mission.

“They are thugs who prey on young people,” Cuomo said. “They are a network that has created horrendous crimes, their currency is fear and intimidation and they’re getting more outrageous and more obnoxious in their activities.”

According to the New York Daily News, authorities believe MS-13 to be behind at least ten local killings in recent months, including the murder of four youths on April 12.
