Monday 5/21/07 6:40pm
Minutemen take to the streets of Grand Island to protest the immigration bill.

The newly formed group stood on a busy street corner near Grand Island's Conestoga Mall.

They spoke out against a bill they said to amnesty.

The Minutemen argued the proposal rewards illegal immigrants with citizenship. They said Congress is focused on the wrong aspect of this contentious issue.

Organizer Mark McCaffery said, "The primary goal of the Minutemen is we need to secure our borders first and foremost. After that, deal with the situation of people here illegally in ourcountry."

The protest met with mixed reaction. Some honked and gave the minutemen a thumbs up, while other shouted back against the protest.

The Minutemen just recently established a chapter in central Nebraska.
