PHOENIX - We are learning more about the suspect who shot and killed a Buckeye police officer.

Reports now show he was in Arizona on a temporary visitor's visa and should have been sent back to Mexico after being released from a California jail.

The Arizona Police Association and Sheriff Joe Arpaio are pointing the finger at the Los Angeles county jail system

They say a clerical error allowed 27-year-old Cesar Quiroz Leon to stay and live in the US after being released from jail.

Paperwork showed he was a US citizen when really he was just here on a green card and should have been deported to Mexico after being released

Police here say Quiroz Leon shot and killed Buckeye police officer Rolando Tirado on May 1st at El Gran Mercado on 35th Avenue and Buckeye.

The Buckeye police officer was working off duty security.
