PHOENIX -- First they gathered enough to force former Senate President Russell Pearce into a recall election, which he lost, now Citizens for a Better Arizona plan to target Gov. Jan Brewer and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

The group is expected to make a formal announcement Monday at the Capitol.

Pearce, the architect of SB 1070, Arizona's controversial anti-illegal-immigration bill, was one thought to be the most powerful politician in the state. Citizens for a Better Arizona launched a recall campaign.

The group was able to gather the necessary signatures to force a recall election. Earlier this month, Pearce lost that election to political newcomer Jerry Lewis.

In the wake of that victory, Citizens for a Better Arizona it's time to deal with two other politicians. The group says Brewer and Arpaio have been abusing their power and need to be held accountable. Leaders of Citizens for a Better Arizona say the organization will be launching steps to do just that as it continues to reject "Pearce-style governing."

It's not yet known exactly what those steps might be or if they include another possible recall election.

"The work of Citizens for a Better Arizona is to engage citizens in community based, grassroots projects that promote civic accountability, public discourse and political advocacy," reads the organization's website.

When asked last week about Monday's expected announcement by Citizens for a Better Arizona, Arpaio said he was not concerned and would continue doing his job as he always has.

Brewer has not commented on the plans of Citizens for a Better Arizona.
