The Arizona Republic .
After Katherine Figueroa's parents were arrested in one of Sheriff Joe Arpaio's sweeps last year, the 10-year-old says she began living in constant fear.
For three months while her parents were in jail, Figueroa says she was terrified to ride in the car or go to the store with relatives for fear they too would be arrested. She said Maricopa County deputies filled her nightmares.
"I also had bad dreams where the deputies would take my aunt and me to jail, too," Figueroa told protesters who gathered for the "Children's March for Family Unity" on Saturday.
Figueroa was among several dozen children and their families who gathered at the state Capitol in the morning to protest SB 1070, the state's controversial new immigration law.
The law, which goes into effect July 29, makes it a state crime to be in the country illegally. It states that a police officer engaged in a lawful stop, detention or arrest shall, when practicable, ask about a person's legal status if reasonable suspicion exists that the person is in the U.S. illegally.
Saturday's march, organized by activist group Puente Arizona, was intended to highlight the problems children of illegal immigrants face when their parents are arrested or deported.
Mateo Perea, 11, told participants he worries many children will be left without parents if SB 1070 is allowed to take effect. He pleaded for President Barack Obama to stop the law and pass immigration reform.
Many of the children carried signs in the shape of monarch butterflies or had the insects painted on their faces.
Diana Perez, an organizer for Puente, explained the bright orange butterfly is a symbol of free migration and open borders.
"If you know about the monarch butterfly, they migrate through several countries without borders," she said. "That's how it is. That's how it should be."

This paper is just USING children to get sympathy. Another sob story from those people in the news. What young children wouldn't make those kinds of comments when confronted with this. This is the fault of their parents NOT OURS!

What a load of crap!! These parents CAN take their kids with them. When they are deported and if they leave their little anchors, the parents should be charged with child abandonment.
