Guatemala man pleads guilty in Kearney stabbing

KEARNEY, Neb. (AP) - A Guatemala man has pleaded guilty to charges he stabbed his girlfriend and her sister in their northwest Kearney apartment.

Mauro Yos-Chiguil enter the plea Wednesday to second-degree murder and felony second-degree assault charges in Buffalo County Court.

Authorities have said Yos-Chiguil stabbed his girlfriend and mother of his twin sons in her head, shoulder, chest and stomach on November 30th. She was released after treatment at a local hospital.

Also injured was the girlfriend's teenage sister.

Yos-Chiguil faces up to 50 years in prison on the attempted murder charge and up to another 20 for assault. The 32-year-old is schedule to be sentenced in May.

After he completes his sentence, Yos-Chiguil could face deportation. Authorities have said he is an illegal immigrant.
