Guatemala Raging against US Policy
Guatemala, Apr 14 (Prensa Latina) Major Guatemalan workers organizations are staging a demonstration in front of the US embassy next week to protest that nation´s anti-immigration policy.
The movement will join the call by immigrants in that country to boycott US products on May 1, International Workers Day.
In the US live over a million Guatemalans, of which 700,000 are undocumented and could be affected if the Senate passes a law to criminalize the undocumented, sanction those who help them and build a wall along its border with Mexico.
In March, during a mass rally in Guatemala City, grassroots sectors submitted to Washington´s embassy a document signed by thousands condemning the anti-immigration policy.
Meanwhile, Deputy Alba Estela Maldonado, from the Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unity, requested that congress declare a position against that law, which is under discussion in the US Senate.
