Man sought on attempted murder charges

A Guatemala man sought by New Jersey authorities on attempted murder charges has been arrested in Los Indios and is awaiting extradition back to New Jersey.

Authorities said Noel Raul Suruy, 39, was arrested Thursday at the Free Trade Bridge in Los Indios, as he attempted to cross into Mexico from the United States.

New Jersey authorities report Suruy allegedly attacked four people with a machete including a teenage girl on Aug. 14.

Suruy was reportedly found hiding in the closet of his ex-girlfriend. He went on a rampage and attacked four people at the home, the Pocono Record reported.

U.S. Border Patrol agents and Customs and Border Protection officers encountered Suruy, as he tried to cross the Los Indios bridge while riding as a passenger in a Chevrolet SUV, CBP stated in a press release.

Suruy was escorted to a secondary inspection at the bridge where authorities verified that he had an outstanding warrant charging him with four counts of attempted murder out of Paterson, New Jersey.

Suruy was arrested at the bridge and turned over to the custody of the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department. He remains in custody at the Carrizalez-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito, pending his extradition back to New Jersey.
