CAMPO – At least three people were hit by gunfire Friday night on the Mexican side of the border near Campo, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol said several shooting victims came across the border.

The shootings occurred some time after 10 p.m.

A Heartland fire dispatcher said he knew of three victims, but that the Border Patrol had said there were more. The dispatcher said he did not know if anyone was killed. Border Patrol officials were unavailable to comment on what occurred.

Ambulances were sent to state Route 94, also known as Campo Road, near the Mexican border west of Campo, at 10:20 p.m. Mercy Air took one person to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, the Heartland fire dispatcher said.

In an e-mail from the San Diego Minutemen founder Jeff Schwilk, an associate claimed Minutemen were in the area when shooting broke out among Mexicans on their side of the border, and at least three people were dead.

In Chula Vista, several residents called police after 11 p.m. to complain about cars speeding through town. Police stopped one driver, who turned out to be a Border Patrol agent in an unmarked car heading toward the Campo scene from the Border Patrol's Chula Vista office.

SAN DIEGO (AP) ---- U.S. Border Patrol agents seized 680 pounds of marijuana from a sport utility vehicle near the border town of Campo.

A Border Patrol spokesman said agents spotted a shredded tire on the Isuzu Trooper and began following it Thursday morning on state Route 94 when the driver made a sudden turn toward a dirt road. The driver parked the car near the border.

The spokesman said agents pulled up to the vehicle and saw three men unloading bundles. When the men spotted the agents they dropped the packages and ran to Mexico.

What's wrong with them going to hospitals in Mexico? Why do the US Taxpayer have to pay for this? This sort of importation of wounded from Mexico for US Hospitals to be payed by US Taxpyers is wrong and must be stopped.

The Mexican government should be billed for all involved costs--they do advocate 'humane treatment' and will not extradict in death penalty cases.

Didn't Los Angeles just donate a fleet of ambulances to Mexico?

Another concern is who are these wounded people and what type of security, if any, needs to be implicated at U.S. hospitals to protect all the patients in the hospital?

    U.S. citizens?
    Dual citizens?
    Mexican citizens?
Citizens of some other foreign country?
    Cartel members?
    Mexican criminals?
    Mexican police?
    Mexican army?
    Gang member?

Whoever was shot, needs to go from the hospital to a detention facility when recovered.

A terrorist could shoot himself in the foot and show up on our border requesting medical treatment to get access to the United States.

Suspects in shootings are no longer treated at a Tijuana Hospital.

TIJUANA – Injured criminals or suspects detained by authorities will no longer be treated at the city's General Hospital, state health officials have promised.
The officials told doctors who have demanded more security that those patients will be sent to a special wing at a prison in the city, said Dr. Jose Manuel Robles Barbosa, the hospital's director.......

I wonder if they've deployed that special military unit to the area?

We need to put an end to this right now. The cost of medical care for these people is not our responsibility and the security threat too great, which brings up anther point of just why it is being reported on where these victims are being taken for treatment?

It scares me to know that it's only a matter of time until we see violence at a hospital here and it makes sense to take steps to prevent it. Start shipping the wounded to detention facilities for treatment like they have been forced to in TJ and for the love of Pete, stop announcing where they are. Also, as soon as they can be moved they need to be sent rght back to Mexico.

Too bad one of the conditions for Merida wasn't that unless Mexico starts payig up on healthcare, the money will be deducted from the Merida funds.

This concerns me There have been so many false allegations about the Minutemen, I just can't help but think that they are going to be accused of being involved in this

    Update--3 hurt in Mexico shooting

    3 hurt in Mexico shooting

    Associated Press - June 14, 2008 3:14 PM ET

CAMPO, Calif. (AP) - A shooting near the Mexican border has left three people wounded.

San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Larry Nesbit says deputies went to a recreational vehicle park near the border town of Campo shortly before 11 last night. They found two people shot and one with a broken arm. One shooting victim had a leg wound and the other had been grazed in the head.

Nesbit says the three apparently were hurt in Mexico and ran a short distance across the border. They were taken to local hospitals but there's no word on their conditions and details of the attack remain unclear.

All three victims ran to the border--so were 'walking wounded'

    one broken arm
    one shot in leg
one with graze on the head

Which one of these warrented Mercy Air for transportation to the hospital?
Suppose the leg wound could have hit an artery but doubt it since he could run.

American hospitals are required to provide emergency care--i.e. life or death--from this report the injuries appear non-life threatening so why weren't Mexican ambulances called?

3 wounded in Mexican border attack

CAMPO, Calif. (AP) -- A shooting near the Mexican border wounded three people who ran into the U.S. to seek treatment, a San Diego County sheriff's official said Saturday.

Deputies were called to a local recreational vehicle park at 10:48 p.m. Friday and found the victims, Lt. Larry Nesbit said.

One had been shot in the upper leg, a second had been grazed in the head by a bullet and the third had a broken arm, Nesbit said.

"All victims were Mexican citizens and the shooting itself occurred in Mexico," Nesbit said.

Nesbit did not have the identities of the victims or other details of the shooting.

One person was airlifted to a hospital and the others were taken by ambulance, authorities said. There was no immediate word on their conditions.

CAMPO – A group of Mexicans preparing to illegally cross the border near Campo was ambushed by armed robbers late Friday, leaving one man dead and three others seriously wounded, Mexican authorities said Saturday.

The three injured men ran across the U.S. border to get help and were found by U.S. Border Patrol agents near the Mountain Empire Recreational Park along state Route 94.

One had been shot in the leg, a second was shot in the head and a third suffered a broken arm, said Agustin Perez, a spokesman for the Baja California Public Safety Secretariat.

They were taken to local hospitals, including one who was flown to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego. Their conditions were unavailable Saturday.

The gunfire began sometime after 10 p.m. as the group of 10 to 15 men and women gathered at a spot called Rosa de Castilla along a popular smuggling route on the Mexican side of the border, Perez said.

Witnesses told Tecate police that four men tried to rob them, and the group dispersed into the wilderness.

One man was found dead from gunshot wounds, Perez said. No arrests have been made.
